Anthony Pollio, a 33-year-old from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was found dead Wednesday in Glacier National Park — about 50 feet off the Mount Brown Trail in a densely wooded area. His injuries are consistent with a bear encounter, park officials said. If confirmed, it would be the first fatal bear attack in the park in nearly 30 years — the last one was in 1998. The trail section is closed. An investigation is ongoing.
Why This Matters to You
Glacier and Yellowstone are two of the most visited national parks in the country. Bear country is beautiful — but it’s also real wilderness. If you’re hiking this summer, carry bear spray, make noise on the trail, and never hike alone in remote areas. Know the park’s safety guidelines before you go. It matters.
